No registration required (Ages 8 and up) Do house wrens need houses, apartments or duplexes? Help the wren population by providing habitat in the Woodworking for Wildlife workshop. Build a wren house and learn important facts to make this new real estate a hit with the wren population.

Whoooo makes his home in Ernie Miller Nature Park? Who else but the Great Horned, Barred, and Screech Owls. Come for an informative talk featuring two live owls and an evening hike through the park. You’ll never know whooo you might spot! Come dressed for the weather and warm up with a cup of hot cider after the hike.

We’re excited to discover that BSA’s Circle 10 Council (Dallas, TX) is offering no less than FIVE AHG-specific courses at their upcoming University of Scouting (College of Venturing). Did you know that AHG volunteers in the KC area are welcome to attend Heart of America Council’s University this coming weekend? Discover Nature: Campfire S’mores and Night Hike

Location: Burr Oak Woods Nature Center

(Families) Learn new techniques to help your children seek and not hide from the creatures of the night. We will discover the night’s wonders as we stalk down the trail in search of nocturnal life. Then, warm up next to a cozy campfire with gooey s’mores. Discover Nature Families programs are designed to help adults to mentor their children while exploring nature and mastering outdoor skills together.

This may help with Camping requirement #6, Nature & Wildlife #1 and/or #6.

Scout Discovery Day, November 3

Date: November 3, 10:00 AM to November 3, 2012, 2:30 PM

Walk-in (All ages) Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Brownies, Cadets, Cub Scouts and Webelos (we assume American Heritage Girls, too!) join us for a day of hands-on activities designed for fun and rank achievement. We’ll have stations and exhibits set-up to provide opportunities to help meet the skill and knowledge requirements for assorted conservation related badges focused on outdoor skills and nature. Explore the life of animals and habitats that call Missouri home. Try your hand at new skills including: pellet guns, knot tying, tree identification, compass, fire starting and more. Both individual scouts and troops are welcome. Don’t miss out on this day created especially for Scouts!
