Put food to the test! Small family groups work together preparing an easy nutritious dish. Then, simple chemical tests are preformed to find out what nutrients make up that same dish.

Science City‘s Educators will guide your family through a one-of-a-kind experience. Each of these workshops are sure to succeed as you and your kids have fun together – so much fun, in fact, that the kids will never suspect it’s an educational activity.

Each workshop will be held twice per scheduled day, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Workshops last about 1 hour & 45 minutes. After arriving please meet at the entrance of Science City then you will be escorted to workshop location as they may vary each week.

Admission to the workshops is $16 for members (one adult and one child), plus $5 for each additional person, or $30 for non-members (one adult and one child), plus $10 for each additional person. Children must have completed 1st grade to participate in the workshop.

Program Times: 11 am & 2 pm. Workshop lasts 1 hour & 45 minutes

First Fridays in the Crossroads, Aug. 2

March First Friday  - Signage Near YJ'sFirst Fridays in the Crossroads is quickly becoming a Kansas City tradition. Galleries and shops stay open late so that you can browse the collections, showcasing both local and national artists. You’ll find both indoor and outdoor entertainment, and many restaurants in the neighborhood offer First Fridays specials, too.

First Fridays is open to children, but many galleries are too crowded for strollers.

First Friday of every month, January – December, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Location: The Crossroads Community is a mile wide downtown area of Kansas City bounded by 15th St., I-35, the Freighthouse district, and Troost Ave. The heart of the Crossroads Arts District lies long 20th St. and Baltimore.

Visiting an artist’s gallery or viewing a collection is a requirement of several of the badges in the Arts Frontier.

Art of the Edge, July 27

Frames usually let the art have all the attention, but they often tell fascinating stories of their own. Explore the untold stories of frames on a tour with SMA staff and then create your own frame in mixed-media. This program is best suited for families with children ages 5-8. No registration necessary. The Spencer hosts a family activity the last Saturday of every month.

Scavenger Saturdays at the Kemper, July 20

Hone your art detective skills and discover something new about contemporary art at the Kemper Museum. The third Saturday of each month is Scavenger Saturdays for families. Children with adults may pick up a self-guided activity at the Visitor Services Desk and follow the clues on this “ART-astic” adventure. When finished with the activity, children may pick up a take-home, art-making activity kit. No reservations are required.

Cost is free.
