Babes In Toyland, Dec. 6-9 & 13-16

Blue Springs Community Theater presents “Babes in Toyland”

We’d like to wrap this musical in gold paper with ribbons & bows all over it and attached a card saying, “Merry Christmas!” Come see as Wicked Uncle Barnaby tries to turn children into dolls and sell them for gold. Who will save the children — and Christmas?

Performances will take place Dec. 6-9 & 13-16. Thursday through Saturday, the house opens at 7pm and curtain raises at 7:30pm. Sundays, the house opens at 1:30pm and curtain raises at 2pm.

A Visit From St. Nicholas, Dec. 1

Experience Christmas as it was meant to be in the 19th century. Visit the farm house of 1889, log cabins of 1830’s; Experience the Civil War Encampments; Make your Christmas purchases at the 1876 Mercantile, post your letters to St. Nicholas at the Post Office; visit the serene setting of the 1884 Church; at the Arnold Home see how Swedish immigrants of the 1880s celebrated Santa Lucia Day and watch how lace was made.  Warm up by the ‘potbellied’ stove in the school, visit the Doctor’s office and then a visit with St. Nicholas in the family home decorated in high Victorian style.  At the end of your visit, you may want to ride the horse drawn sleigh for a brief ride through the countryside!

$5 per person, 5 and under free.

Christmas At Mahaffie, Dec. 1

Kick off your Christmas Season with our Annual Christmas Open House.

Saturday, December 1; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Schedule of Events for Christmas Open House (free admission)

  • 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Shady Grove String Band will play music in the Heritage Center
  • 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Visit Father Christmas near the Mahaffie House
  • 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Visit Santa in the Heritage Center!
  • 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Shawnee Victorian Christmas Carolers
  • 2:30 p.m. Wheat Threshing Demonstration on Mahaffie Grounds
  • 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Visit the Mahaffie house and grounds for hands on Living History activities, such as stringing popcorn and cranberries, see what is cooking on Mrs. Mahaffie’s cookstove and visit the blacksmith.

$2/person ages 3 and up for stagecoach rides, weather and ground conditions permitting.

In the Heritage Center, enjoy the entertainment, make an ornament, and make a gingerbread house for $3/house.

No registration is required for Christmas Open House.

A Very Fifties Christmas!, Nov. 24 – Dec. 29

The 1950s All-Electric House is decorated for the holidays! Rock around our aluminum Christmas tree on the guided tour and celebrate the holidays 1950s-style!

Mondays through Saturdays, Nov. 24 – Dec. 29
(Mon-Fri 1 – 4 p.m, Sat 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.)

Cost $2/adults, $1/children 12 and under.

A Spirit of Christmas Past Heritage Homes Tour, Nov. 23 – Dec. 30

See three historic homes in Independence all decorated for the holidays during the Spirit of Christmas Past Heritage Homes Tour.

  • Vaile Mansion (A Fashionable Victorian Christmas)
  • Bingham-Waggoner Estate (Spirit of Christmas Past)
  • 1859 Jail & Marshall’s Home Museum (A Simple Old Fashioned Christmas)

Nov. 23 – Dec. 30 (closed Dec. 23-25)
Monday – Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Cost – $15 for all the homes, for $6 adults/$3 children for each individual home

As a bonus, you can also see the Chicago & Alton Depo (A St. Nicholas Christmas) Saturdays Nov. 24 – Dec. 15 (9:30 – 4:30) or Sundays Nov. 25 – Dec. 16 (12:30 – 4:30)

Christmas At Lanesfield, Nov. 24 – Dec. 29

Drop in and see the school decorated for an old-fashioned Christmas! Practice your penmanship, and learn how Christmas was celebrated in 1904. Make an ornament to take home. Admission is free.

Location: Lanesfield Historic Site, 18745 S. Dillie Rd Edgerton, KS 66021
