Family Fun Nights at Mahaffie, July 11, 18, 25

Bring the family out to enjoy living history activities at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm.

There will be a different theme each week:

  • July 11th-Kansas Cowboys
  • July 18th-Kansas Wheat Harvest
  • July 25th-Fun on the Farm (Due to crop maturity, activities may be switched July 18th & July 25th)

Admission is free, though there may be a small fee for certain activities, and stagecoach rides are $2/person.

Thursdays in June and July, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Living History Weekends, April and May

Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm in Olathe, KS will offer living history activities weekends in April and May. Activities may include see what is cooking on Mrs. Mahaffie’s cookstove, visit the blacksmith and the Mahaffie house and take a stagecoach ride (weather and ground conditions permitting). Other activities may include spring farming activities as weather and ground conditions allow. All activities are included with living history admission, $6/adults, $4/children ages 5-11, Olathe residents receive $1/off admission. Season Pass holders get in free for weekend living history.

The Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site engages visitors with hands on experiences of 1860s farming, frontier life and stagecoach travel while preserving the significant Mahaffie Story. Mahaffie is the last remaining stagecoach stop open to the public on the Santa Fe Trail.  The historic site offers a unique hands-on experience for visitors of all ages focusing on 1860s farming, stagecoach operations and westward expansion.

The Heritage Center exhibit, I Knew It Was A Fine Country, tells the stories of the Mahaffie family, early Olathe and Johnson County, the western trails and stagecoach travel. The exhibit includes a 12 minute film offering more of the site’s history. The video “Border War Voices” allows visitors to learn about what settlers went through during the Border War era. The video was co-produced by Wide Awake Films and generously funded through the Kansas Humanities Council. Please park in the Heritage Center parking lot to begin your visit to Mahaffie. GPS users, please enter 1200 Kansas City Road Olathe, KS as your address instead of 1100 Kansas City Road.

A visit to Mahaffie is a good way to approach Our Heritage.

Christmas At Mahaffie, Dec. 1

Kick off your Christmas Season with our Annual Christmas Open House.

Saturday, December 1; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Schedule of Events for Christmas Open House (free admission)

  • 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Shady Grove String Band will play music in the Heritage Center
  • 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Visit Father Christmas near the Mahaffie House
  • 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Visit Santa in the Heritage Center!
  • 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Shawnee Victorian Christmas Carolers
  • 2:30 p.m. Wheat Threshing Demonstration on Mahaffie Grounds
  • 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Visit the Mahaffie house and grounds for hands on Living History activities, such as stringing popcorn and cranberries, see what is cooking on Mrs. Mahaffie’s cookstove and visit the blacksmith.

$2/person ages 3 and up for stagecoach rides, weather and ground conditions permitting.

In the Heritage Center, enjoy the entertainment, make an ornament, and make a gingerbread house for $3/house.

No registration is required for Christmas Open House.

Thanksgiving at Mahaffie, Nov. 23 and 24

Friday, November 23; 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, November 24; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Friends and family in town for the Thanksgiving weekend? Or need a diversion from holiday shopping? Visit Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and enjoy the exhibits in the Heritage Center and Living History activities.

Friday, November 23 see what is cooking on Mrs. Mahaffie’s cookstove, take a stagecoach ride (weather and ground conditions permitting) and visit the Mahaffie House. Stagecoach rides on Friday will be offered every hour from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Saturday, November 24, take a stagecoach ride, (weather and ground conditions permitting) visit the blacksmith and the Mahaffie House. Stagecoach rides on Saturday will be offered every hour from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Regular site admission applies, Olathe residents recieve $1/off admission.
