Dr. Laugh's Old Fashioned Variety ShowHarris Deutsch is not only a comedic magician, he also performs as a ventriloquist, and puppeteer of the Nearly Normal Puppets. This show is a variety of magic, puppets, marvelous toys and lots of laughs! Admission also includes a tour of our puppet museum, which features our exhibit, Pinocchio Time! Finger puppets of show characters are for sale at the front desk.

Mother’s Day for Mother Earth, May 12


Mother’s Day for Mother Earth StoneLion’s Annual puppet show of ENORMOUS proportions! For the seventh year StoneLion Puppet Theatre will celebrate Mother’s Day with Kansas City’s largest puppet show, Mother’s Day for Mother Earth. Larger than life puppets, professional actors, original music, dancers, community participants and you will celebrate the spring on the lawn of The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. This free event has attracted over 3500 audience members and grows annually. Viewers from as far away as Sweden have joined our local residents in a day of celebration for our planet and families with 20’ tall puppets such as Orca whales, giant bugs and peacocks. What will this year be? Join us to find out. Bring your picnic, set up a lawn chair, tour the museum, make your own puppet at our craft tables and enjoy the day.

Mother’s Day for Mother Earth, May 12

Seventh annual puppet show of enormous proportions

We’ll have a performance stage, hands-on workshop area and games, environmental information tables and refreshment area.

Why: Our goal is to bring awareness to environmental issues in our own area and to provide realistic opportunities for change and involvement, while exposing our audience to a broad range of ARTISTIC mediums; puppetry, theater, music, dance and sculpture. This interactive project will enable community members of all ages, races, and socio-economic strata to become a part of the art of puppet-making and performance while celebrating the environment, and reminding the community as a whole of our impact on the world in which we live.

This program is based on the book by local Missouri author Lisa Campbell Ernst. Bubba is a “nervous Nelly” caterpillar afraid to leave his leaf. He meets Trixie, a crimped winged ladybug who knows no fear. Join their adventures as Trixie helps Bubba learn to enjoy life and be happy with what he is and what he becomes.

Geppetto's Fish StorySeasoned puppeteer Anitra Steele once again visits the Puppetry Arts Institute with a brand new show. The story the famous but fictional woodcarver, Geppetto, and his grandson, Little Pin. There’s no way Little Pin can catch a bigger fish than the one that caught his Grandpa Geppetto. Admission also includes a tour of our puppet museum, which features our exhibit, Pinocchio Time! Finger puppets of show characters are for sale at the front desk.
